I am so excited about this event that I had to share it with you all as soon as I could.

I’ve been reading the blog Design Mom for a couple of years now. It’s packed with great information for women who are raising young children and who appreciate design. I love how Gabrielle Blair shares her life in a way that makes you feel like she’s your best friend. She inspires me.

One of my favorite features is her “Living with Kids” home tours. Some time last year she said she wanted to widen the diversity of the families featured in the tours. Since I’m a bit older than Design Mom’s regular readers and my kids are all grown up, I figured it was a long shot to think she’d be interested in my story. I submitted it anyway.

You might imagine my surprise when in just a week or so, I heard from her editor, Josh Bingham, that they wanted my story. I hired my talented niece, Rachel, at Photography by Rae Lynn, to take the professional photos, then wrote my story in answer to their questions.

The story was posted today (click here to read it), and I was literally brought to tears by some of the comments, like this one from Lisa:

Best Living with Kids post you’ve ever published. So enjoyed the maturity – in her approach to design, raising children, and living with grief. I have a son in college and lost my dad in the last year. Her words hit home for me.

And this one from Natalie:

I loved this home post more than any other. It reminded me so much of the home I grew up in – nice but lived in. You can tell anyone would feel comfortable in that home.

Another reader, Melissa, said she was going to print and frame my words of parenting advice.

To know that my desire to encourage and inspire others with scenes from my life is a reality on some level, for even a few people, just blows me away. To God be the glory.

I have so many people in my life that encourage me to keep writing. I am grateful for every one of you, especially the one who I can almost hear shouting from heaven what he would have said if he were here, “You go, girl.”

Just getting caught up on your February posts and I am in awe of your accomplishments -both The Design Mom article and the Workshop piece make me feel as if I am right there with you, hearing the echos of loved ones from days that are precious memories to feeling that brisk winter air in my lungs as I gaze out over the magnificent vista you have brought me to. And to think you are only just beginning to shape all that you have stored leaves me looking forward with great wonder and anticipation.
